ConCentrics 3.0 at the Adventure Science Center

A newly expanded version of my Wii remote drawing composition is at Nashville’s Adventure Science Center through May 13.

I developed the code to include 4 remotes instead of the usual 2 and there is now an option to fill in the circles and square animations. I am liking the improvements!

If you post any pix please tag with #concentrics so that I can see your lovely artwork!

Eclipse Review in Nashville Arts Magazine

Many thanks to Joseph E. Morgan for his review of Eclipse!

After intermission Robbie Lynn Hunsinger’s Eclipse was performed. Hunsinger’s work “draws on traditions of free improvisation, Appalachian fiddle techniques, and contemporary classical influences” to create a programmatic collage accompanied by visualizations projected on the screen behind. From the strange instrumentation (music box piano, Tibetan singing bowls) to eerie electronics, the performance was mesmerizing.

chatterbird has commissioned me to write a multimedia chamber music piece. It has been quite the challenge and adventure to write for a small chamber group and also to strictly be a composer (and VJ) this time. I have really enjoyed the work and am looking forward to the premiere on
Thursday December 7, 8pm at Ingram Hall @ Vanderbilt University!

Please come out if you can and if you have any soft lit and colorful glow sticks or other not very bright glowy devices please bring them. I’m hoping to have a part for you! Feel free to email me with questions!

A big thanks to all of you who came out to play with Constellation!  It was so much fun watching people dance and twirl and play with this project. It am honored to report that it won a Best of Nashville 2017 award from the Nashville Scene!

chatterbird multimedia commission for Dec 7

Article on Nashville’s Fall Classical schedule mentions my upcoming work with Nashville’s contemporary chamber group chatterbird.

I am very excited to be working on my largest orchestration to date. This will be a debut of a multimedia commission with projections for small chamber orchestra.

more to come!

Music Commission for Nashville’s Artober Festival!

I am thrilled to have received a composition commission from the Metro Nashville Arts Commission, the Bonnarroo Works Fund and the Community Foundation of Tennessee.

The call submission dictated creating a new work based on one of our many great public art installations in Nashville, TN. I chose Chris Fennell’s Tool Fire, a sculpture made of shovels, picks and other tools used to clean up after our devastating 2010 flood.

I played the sculpture with mallets and a bow, added bowed cross-tuned upright bass and recorded a rainstorm that came through during my work sessions to create Tool Fire Rain.
