Chamber Music meets Sound Responsive Visuals
The August 21 concert has been postponed due to scheduling issues and I am looking to reschedule Nov 26. Updates coming soon!
I was just informed that I won an Outer Ear Award from Experimental Sound Studio in Chicago to document these works. This award gives me a free recording session with ESS engineers. Dates for the concert, recording session and a presentation about the creative programming involved will be confirmed soon.
I was awarded a Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs Grant to produce a concert of my chamber music works. 2 pieces have coded sound responsive animations and projections! I am grateful for the support of the City of Chicago and also for the generous support of Hairpin Arts Center which is hosting the concert.
This will be the second ever performance of Eclipse and Catalyst and the premiere of Pavane for Palestine, Lachrimae. This is primarily traditionally notated music although Eclipse also includes improvisations at the beginning and a section of imagery guided improvisation during Totality. Eclipse and Catalyst include electronic percussion tracks.
I am grateful to have an all-star cast to perform my work drawn from Chicago new music and classical specialists listed at the bottom of the page.
The concert will be short and I will be available for a Q & A after the performances and also plan to bring some interactive audiovisual installations for you to enjoy during the reception.
Below are some youtube links and reviews and interviews about Eclipse

Pavane for Palestine, Lachrimae was commissioned by Intersection Music in Nashville TN and funded by the National Endowment for the Arts. The players refused to perform my piece and it was cancelled 2 weeks before the premiere in March 2024. This will be the premiere.
Eclipse was commissioned by chatterbird ensemble in Nashville TN. It was performed at Vanderbilt’s Ingram Hall.
I used footage I shot of the total solar eclipse in Nashville 2017 along with manual and sound reactive effects and generative animations. The lyrics are taken from Annie Dillard’s essay Total Eclipse. This was my first project writing for larger chamber group and a singer.
More information on Catalyst is at this link. This was written for a Composer Consortium in Brooklyn and read by Unheard of Ensemble.
